New Linux based e-ink devices now and in 2007

Jinke, the Hong Kong based hardware developer who has for over a year been promising devices based on the e-ink electronic paper technology may finally be releasing some devices.

V8

The Jinke V8 reader, which can display pdf and other commonly used formats, without being crippled by the DRM that plagued the first Sony digital device based on this technology is purported to be out now.

The Jinke V2, which runs Linux will be out very shortly.

Both sport a 6″ e-ink display, mp3 player, SD card slot.

As if that wasn’t enough, Jinke has decided to tease us with SIX additional hardware releases for 2007, some with a larger (10″) e-ink display as well as touchscreen displays, some with GPRS and Wifi and all running linux.

Jinke devices

I’ve been following electronic paper technology for a while now, and waiting for Jinke to get these devices out for over a year now, (the original launch of these devices was supposed to be in May 2006). They are now promising an even more agressive product release schedule… we’ll see if they can keep to it.

Some more information can be found here.

Now, if we can just get the Newton Einstein software ported to a touchscreen version of this platform… I think that might be something…
