Long live the revolution!
27 Sep 2004 | Seamus
It was meant to be eight hours on the bus from Cuzco to Quillabamba - it wasnt. After nightfall, with our packs on our backs, the last 2Km into Quillabamba were both worrying and elating. Elating because we had walked though many roadblocks, paid over the odds for a minibus to run the roadblocks and protesters and worryng because the hillside was on fire.

Today I've just walked the entire Arequipa Ave. From Cercado to Miraflores... It was sooooo great! God, I love Lima!!
An outstandingly amazing sight, every time I see it. I just regret never having the chance to experience them up close.
Would you be so kind to let me know where I can buy mate de coca tea bags? Kind regards Dee
Sorry for that accidental duplication on my initial comment. The Puya Raimondii to me appears to be about fortythree feet tall (assuming person is five feet tall) and four feet in diameter. The inflorescence (technically a spicate panicle) appears to be twenty feet plus a five foot peduncle, and about five feet wide at the widest point. All of these are records for the species, if, in fact, the individual in the photo is parallel with the Puya relative to the camera, which to my eye appears to be the case. Do you remember the exact location of the person and their actual height?
